Editing, Proofreading, & Publication Preparation

Editing Non-native English

If you are a non-native, but fluent English speaker (or if you grew up bilingual), chances are your English writing will benefit from a thorough edit. Depending on your needs, I offer two levels of editing: basic and deep. Basic editing entails correcting sentence structure (grammar, syntax), spelling, formatting and other elements to improve readability and make sure the prose reads as if it was written by a native English speaker. Deep editing does not just address language specific aspects, but also addresses content, structure and style. It involves collaborating with the author to clarify meaning, fill gaps in logic and ensure you are getting your point across to your intended audience.

Proofreading & Polishing Native English

If your English composition will be submitted for publication, or just needs to be well polished and error free, I can help! Proofreading entails a last read by a fresh pair of eyes to make sure there are no typos, verb tense mismatches etc., basically ferreting out the kind of errors that are hard to spot when you are the author and you’ve read your work a dozen times already. Polishing is just an added step of providing suggestions, if any, to spruce up your prose.

Publication Preparation

Once your original composition is beautifully written, the last step is to make sure it complies with the style guide of the publisher. In some cases, the style guide should be considered much earlier in the writing process, and if I am translating your original work from Spanish or editing your original work in English, the style guide of the target publisher will be taken into account as we go along. I can also help you with submission forms and the Cover Letter.
